How to Body Brush
-
Start at the soles of the feet and make long sweeping movements toward the knees
- Use firm anti-clockwise movements over the thighs hips and buttocks
- Brush with light clockwise circular strokes, moving upwards from the stomach to the chest
- Use long strokes from the lower back upwards and short downward strokes over the shoulders
- Brush in long upward sweeps from hand to elbow, and then from elbow to shoulder
Goosebumpy Arms: Spend a few extra seconds doing short firm strokes from elbow to shoulder, to get rid of any little bumps on your upper arm.
Rough Elbows: Brush the dull dry skin away from your elbows using a gentle circular motion. Also get into the habit of regularly applying moisturiser to your elbows throughout the day.
Hard Skin on Heels: A build up of skin can cause heels to become hard and scaly. Short sweeping strokes with a firm brush will help keep your feet soft, as will a weekly soak in a warm tub followed by a pumice.
Do's and Don'ts
- Do brush the same area several times, one sweep isn't enough to exfoliate.
- Do wash your brush regularly, dead skin can get clogged in the bristles
- Do brush thoroughly before applying a fake tan, it will give a more even finish
- Don't brush the nipples, dry brushing can be harsh on sensitive areas
- Don't worry if you get blemishes, your skin is detoxifying, it will clear up
- Don't brush if you have a skin condition, speak to your doctor first
What type of brush to use?
There are a lot of different types of body brushes you can use. Each type has its good points and bad points. But the best type of body brush to use is one with Natural, usually Boar Bristles, which is the perfect balance between firm and soft. These bristles will act like mini massaging exfoliaters. You willl also want a brush that is a two in one multi handle. As the picture at the top of this page shows, a two in one multi handle is a handheld brush with a removeable handle that neatly slots into the back. This is handy as you need the handle attatchment for doing your back.
